About Scaling and Root Planing
A deep cleaning does not mean that your are getting a better cleaning. Instead it meas that you have deep pockets and bone kloss around the teeth to be cleaned. It also indicates that you have tartar build up around the roots. If you are designed to be in need of a deep cealing, we will first verify this by probing the pockets and taking Xrays.
Special tools are designed to fit between the gum tissue and the root and these are used to scape off the hard and difficult to reach tartar from the roots.
